What defines an outstanding pair of heels?
The 50-year-old Italian artisan shoemaker Cesare Casadei would tell you that it is the unique combination of the upper, the shape of the toecap and the platform, as well as the line and proportions of the heels. In fact, it is quite easy for one to spot a pair of Casadei’s on the street just by finding the sharpest and yet still feminine looking razor-blade heels that have become the defining moment for this Italian shoemaker!

Italians have long been known for their talents and places in the shoe industry. Cesare’s parents Quinto and Flora Caseida started making their first pair of shoes in 1958. When Cesare joined the company, he brought a specific mix of old and new concepts to the company, and it was under his vision that Casadei had become an international sensation. Casadei was keen on using only exclusive suppliers and traditional techniques, and yet was daring enough to introduce exotic leather and new man-made materials into his collection. Unlike the nature of some family businesses that mainly serve the locals, Casadei was not afraid to communicate and build brand images throughout the world and even introducing e-commerce on the company’s website to meet the international demands!

Casadei’s latest collaboration with Prabal Gurung - an up-and-coming Nepalese-American designer - in the 2013 fall collection had caused quite a stir in the fashion community. As Cesare said in the Prabal Gurung 2013 FW backstage interview: “My English is not as fluent [as Prabal Gurung’s], but this [shoes] is the language of fashion.”
